Chch Casino in Christchurch: A look at a long running venue
I haven't been to the Christchurch Casino yet, but I’ve heard it’s been around forever, since 1994, which must mean they’ve seen a lot of changes over the years. I’m usually more used to playing on my phone or computer, so I’m really curious how different a physical land-based place is compared to an online slot machine experience.
I guess it must be pretty cool to just walk in and see all the gaming floor setup in person. Has anyone visited recently? Is the atmosphere generally lively on the floor, or is it more of a quiet place to just spin a few machines? Thanks for any info you guys can share. 🙏

FreespinLord, kid, 1994 was when I still thought 50 spins of Tomb Raider was a big night out 😄 you're right though, that floor has seen some things.
Been down a few times, it's a proper old-school grind of a place. DIA licence means the pokies and tables are the real deal, no funny business, and the cage has never given me grief cashing out. It's smaller than you'd expect if you've only known the big offshore palaces, but there's something to be said for walking out with actual notes in your pocket instead of waiting on a withdrawal. If you ever make the trip, go on a weeknight, the crowd's quieter and the tables breathe a bit.
Maybe I'm being dumb but what is an old-school grind like on the floor? 😟
New here, soaking it up.
Old-school grind just means a place that's been plugging away the same way for decades, no flash, no gimmicks. Christchurch Casino is a good example, floor's been humming since 1994, pokies and tables doing their thing night after night while the online world went mad around it. I turned 50 into 5k on a floor like that once, took me most of a Saturday mind you 😄 slow and steady, that's the grind.
Same way for decades? I'd want proof. Any floor running 30 years has swapped machines, tweaked payouts, chased volatility trends like the rest of us 📊
I keep my own spin/hit spreadsheet 📊
Being licensed by the Department of Internal Affairs is what would get me through the door tbh 😅 total noob question but does the cage cash out on the spot?
