Honestly I've never thought about a checklist before walking in, I just rocked up to Christchurch Casino once and got flustered at the cage πŸ˜… Total noob here so this thread is gold for me. The ID thing for KYC, do they actually ask for it every time or just first visit? I only have my driver's licence on me usually, hoping that's enough. Also keen on the cashout plan bit, because I made my first deposit with zero plan and just vibes 😬 How do you lot decide when to walk. A set amount you're happy to lose, or a win point where you cash out no matter what? keen to steal ideas for my own routine πŸ™

Got flustered at the cage πŸ˜… mate that's every first-timer, don't stress. They ask for ID whenever you're cashing out decent NZ$ (first visit for sure), so keep your licence handy and do your cashout plan before you even deposit, saved me walking out with nothing more than once... knowing when to walk is the real skill tho πŸ”₯🎰
Backing my slot to the last spin.

Okay dumb question but what's a cashout plan exactly? πŸ˜… Like you decide beforehand how much you take out and when? Need this before I deposit πŸ™

Yeah mate it's dead simple. Cashout plan means you decide before you even deposit: this much in, and if I'm up this much or down this much, I cash out and walk. Like last time I told myself NZ$200 loss or NZ$500 win and the pokies machine gets left alone no matter how hot it feels. Saved me so many times tbh, once I was up huge and walked instead of spinning it back, still brag about that sesh ah well πŸ˜…πŸ”₯

This thread is helping me heaps, still learning bonuses and all πŸ˜… So writing the walk-away number on my phone before I deposit actually works for people?

I'll say something unpopular: the phone note with your walk-away number works about half the time, and I'd want to know which half you're in before anyone tells you it's foolproof. Writing "NZ$200 loss, NZ$500 win" on your phone is easy; honouring it while a machine is throwing free spins at you every few minutes is the actual test. I've watched plenty of punters check the note, sigh, and keep feeding the pokies anyway. What does help is making the decision physical rather than mental. Take one banking amount and leave the card in the car, so topping up means a walk outside in the cold, suddenly that NZ$200 limit has friction attached. And keep the volatility idea in mind: a session can look completely dead or completely paying depending purely on which games you've picked, so judge your plan against the swing you expected, not against one bad hour. Also, answer for FreespinLord: yes, bring photo ID to the cage on visit one, the KYC check is routine and they won't pay you without it.
I keep my own spin/hit spreadsheet πŸ“Š

@WinLive fair point, half is generous from what I've seen at the cage. The note works when the punter treats it as a receipt, not a suggestion. I've watched blokes rewrite the rule mid-session because the machine felt hot. And before anyone praises this venue's payouts: got a cashout screenshot?
RTP doesn't lie, win screenshots do.

@Nick_Win the receipt framing is spot on, and the "hot machine" bit is where I see people lose the plot. A few wins in a row changes nothing about the next spin, the variance just feels like a trend. What I tell mates: write the number and also write what you'll do with the rest, because a punter with no plan for the remaining NZ$ will always find a reason to spin it back. The screenshot question is fair, though I'd take a signed-off cashout over a screenshot any day.
RTP is a long-run number.

@WinLive half is about right from my seat too, and I know which half I used to be in. Rewrote the walk-away number twice in one session last year chasing a bonus round that never landed. NZ$300 note became "just another fifty" three times over. The fix for me was boring: cash only, no eftpos card in the pocket, so the number has a hard floor whether I respect it or not. RobReels is spot on about the hot machine rubbish too. Took a 500x on a pokie a while back and the temptation to ride it was huge. Banked it and walked instead. Discipline's not a feeling, it's what you do when you're up. πŸ”₯🎰

@BigWinOrBust4Life saying the number out loud actually works for some mates at the club, no joke, makes it real when someone else heard it too 🀫 Machine felt hot? that's just variance having a laugh, mate. Keep the receipt in your pocket, not your head, and you know the rest 😏

@AlmostHadIt_FC69 mate telling someone out loud is the only trick that's ever worked for me too πŸ˜‚ told my flatmate I'd cash if I got up NZ$300 once and his smug face at the door was worth more than the winnings. Usually my walk-away number is just whatever's left after the bank's gone 🀣

@RobReels agree on the trend bit, though I'd add the reverse messes people up worse - a few losses and suddenly the machine "owes" them. Watched a fella at the club feed NZ$100 into a pokie because it hadn't paid all arvo, like variance keeps a ledger. Word is the punter who treats the note as a receipt walks out smiling more often than the one reading vibes off the reels 😏 what the note says after that, you know the rest 🀫

Hot machine talk drives me mental πŸ˜… my favourite pokie went cold for a whole arvo then spat NZ$400 at me same night. It's on it every evening, no ledger in there πŸ”₯🎰

@Otago_Bro spot on mate, variance has zero memory. I ran 2 a spin through a cold patch like that once and nearly traded the whole session chasing it, should've just cashed out and walked. The NZ$400 landed because you were still sitting there with discipline, not because the machine "woke up" πŸ”₯

@Queenstown15 that "sitting there with discipline" bit hits hard πŸ˜… I'm still learning this stuff the dumb way, set myself a walk-away number last week and then ignored it chasing losses. Next time I'm literally saying it out loud like AlmostHadIt does, maybe that works on my brain 😭 cheers for the reminder mate

@Queenstown15 mate that chasing bit hurts to read because I did the EXACT same thing last month, sat through a cold patch on my favourite slot swearing it was due any spin now and watched a good night turn into a long walk to the cage πŸ˜…πŸ’€ Discipline is the whole game honestly. Only time I ever walked out grinning was the night I set my number before I even sat down and actually stuck to it, cashed the ticket, straight to the car πŸ€‘πŸ”₯ now if only I could do that every time lol

@Otago_Bro no ledger in there, true, but I'd want to see that NZ$400 hit the cage before calling it a win. Ticket or it didn't happen, mate.

Flatmate accountability is elite tbh πŸ˜‚ I get my missus to hold the ticket money, no willpower of my own. Cold patches are brutal, feel you both πŸ’€
