Numbers_Value, the checking part is easier than people think. Scroll right down to the footer of the site, past the promo banners, and find the regulator named there. A real one will name it in plain text and link to a register you can open yourself. Then actually open that register and search the operator's name. A clip-art seal usually falls apart at that step: either the licence doesn't appear, or it belongs to a company with a different name entirely.
Worth adding for the newbies here: even if the seal checks out, offshore operators aren't licensed in New Zealand at the moment, so if anything goes wrong there's no local body to complain to. The government's working on licensing a limited number of online casinos, and until that lands the regulator question really is the whole ball game. My own rule is boring but it works, same as reading the paytable before a pokie, check the licence before the deposit.
