Imperial Casino has the friendliest cage staff in NZ?
This actually makes me want to make the trip π
I've only ever done the pokie scene at pubs and clubs, never been into a proper casino floor, so the whole cage thing is a bit of a mystery to me. Is the cage just where you take your chips or ticket and they hand you cash? Sounds dead simple the way you describe it. One minute and a joke about parking, that's the dream.
My pub pokies have never once been friendly, the machines just eat my NZ$ and the bar staff are too busy to care. If the staff at Imperial actually chat to you about your luck, that alone seems worth the walk in. Do they run any comps or anything for walk-ins, or is it just a good vibe and nothing more? Total noob here when it comes to land-based places π
Learning to clear wagering, go easy π
Yep, the cage is exactly that π
you rock up with your ticket or chips and they hand over the cash, took me about a minute last Saturday night. And the attendant there is a legend, cracked a joke that my winnings would barely cover the parking and honestly he wasn't wrong π€π
First time on a proper floor after the pub pokies is a whole vibe tbh, the machines hit different and the staff don't give you that "you again" look like some pubs do. Fire π₯π°
One slot, one love π°
FreespinLord, yep that's the gist, ticket in, cash out, usually inside a minute if there's no queue. Fair warning though: once you've had a proper floor, the pub pokies scene feels a bit sad, the variance is the same but the atmosphere and the staff banter make a losing session almost bearable. Parking joke lands because it's true for most of us. On a small spin sample the cage payout rarely beats the carpark fee π
I keep my own spin/hit spreadsheet π
This might be a dumb question but what's "variance" mean exactly? Like how swingy the pokies are? π
Still learning all this stuff, thanks for the breakdown NeonMaster π
New here, soaking it up.
Yeah mate, variance is exactly how swingy a pokie is, high variance means long dead spells then the odd decent hit, low variance pays little and often. Last Saturday at Imperial I chewed through a cold stretch on the floor for ages before one spin finally paid, and honestly the cage banter made the dry run way easier to take π
π°
CashOutLive, good question actually, and OldSchool's summary is fair. The bit I'd add: two machines can pay back the same over time and still feel completely different, because variance decides the shape of the journey rather than the destination. Low swing gives you small hits that stretch a session out; high swing gives you long dead spells where your ticket value just bleeds, then one hit rescues the night or doesn't.
And here's where the floor bit matters: on a pub pokie your sample is whatever you feed it before you get bored and go home. On a proper casino floor with a bit of banter and a cage attendant joking about your parking, you'll happily sit through more of those dead spells without tilting, which is exactly when the swings show themselves. Whether that's a good thing for your wallet is another question entirely. π
RTP is a long-run number.
Agree the cage service is genuinely good there, got mine done in about a minute too. Caveat though: friendly staff and friendly machines are two different things. Long-run the pokies still take it back off you.
RTP doesn't lie, win screenshots do.
FreespinLord, the cage is dead easy. Hand over your ticket or chips, they count it out, done in a minute. My cashier there even took the mickey about my "winnings" barely covering parking π π°
500x one day, zero the next. Classic.
The parking joke got me too π
my cashier said it dead straight-faced and I couldn't even be mad. Wasn't sure if I'd feel out of place walking onto a proper floor for the first time but the staff made it easy, would go again just for that. Do they actually train them to be that nice or is it just good hiring? π

Scripted or not, that joke got me good first visit π walked out lighter but still had a grin on my face, worth it tbh

@WildWin_Queen same energy tbh π hit big last night on the pokies there and the cage still cracked that joke, cackled like the first time. Worth the walk out lighter π€π°
The cage jokes are scripted, they literally say the same one π Friendliest staff to the friendliest exit empty, did you even withdraw, or just chat? π€‘πΈ
Ha, @ModelLab has a point about the joke being in the training manual, heard that same one myself years back and again last month. But scripted or not, a cage that cracks a smile while handing over your NZ$ beats a sour one every day of the week. Turned 50 into a tidy sum there once and the payout still came with the same quip, ah well, we grind on π
Busted more than you've deposited π
Lol the cage staff there have got me hooked on the whole place tbh π went in for a quick pokies sesh last week, lost a bit, and the lady at the cage still sent me off laughing. Made losing feel way less painful somehow π€·β¦
Honestly, the vibe is probably fine, I guess. You get the whole performance set up to make the place feel welcoming before you even try your luck on the pokies. Itβs theatre, really. A smiling face handing over your NZ$ sounds great in theory, but ultimately the point of the cage is the transaction itself, which is almost always just the removal of capital. Iβm just curious though, does anyone ever see instances where the staff are truly genuinely relaxed, not just delivering the mandated customer service script? Because I've always been sceptical about how much sincerity actually makes it past the floor staff, regardless of how friendly they are.
Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen.

@JandalKiwi agree with the sentiment, a smiling cage beats a grumpy one. But a friendly face handing over your NZ$ means nothing if the withdrawal queue drags or they start quizzing you over a legit win. I'd take a miserable cage that pays out same-visit over a charming one with excuses. Anyone here actually got a cashout photo from Imperial to back up the good vibes?
Hype isn't a payout.

Also massive respect to whoever said friendly cage > sour cage, because yeah, exactly. I'm there every evening when I can be and it's always action here, the vibe on the floor matches the cage energy too. My all-time favourite venue hands down π°π€
Backing my slot to the last spin.

They do crack a smile though, right? That feeling after a huge win makes the whole trip perfect π₯π°π°π€
