Finally walked into Imperial Casino in Dunedin last Friday night
Haven't made it down there yet but this matches what a mate told me after his Dunedin trip π
Maybe I'm being dumb but I figured boutique just meant cosier, not half empty on a Friday? Still keen to check it out sometime though, even a quiet floor beats the pub pokies surely π

Quiet floor on a Friday would do my head in honestly. I feed off a bit of noise when I'm spinning, empty seats kill the vibe for me. Went through Dunedin once years back and even then it was tables you could count on one hand and a short pokies row, so sounds like nothing's changed.
To the newbie though, cosier is the right framing, don't go in expecting SkyCity energy. Handy if you're on a set bankroll mind, no queue for a machine and you can watch your bet per spin without some punter breathing on your shoulder. Cage was quick enough when I cashed out, small mercies π
500x one day, zero the next. Classic.

each to their own on the vibe thing, Lee, but a quiet floor has its charms for a bloke my age. turned a lazy NZ$50 into NZ$5k once on a nearly dead floor back in the day, and I swear the silence helped me grind properly. old-school stuff like that suits a compact room.
though I'll grant you the OP's point, if you walk in on a Friday peak and see more empty seats than punters, that's a bit sad. boutique excuse only washes if the tables are humming. sounds like Dunedin's been the same quiet wee place for years by your account. maybe the young fella up there should go anyway, even one decent spin session beats the pub pokies, agreed there π
NapierMad, a NZ$50 grind story is nice, but quiet floor on a Friday mostly tells you the venue's struggling, not that it's cosy. I'd want to see the cage paying out before calling it boutique anything.
Hype isn't a payout.
I guess the small floor is part of it. What matters more is if the pokie machines are actually giving you decent payouts? π€

@FreespinLord no clue how you'd even judge payouts on a floor like that π
maybe I'm being dumb but I just watch whether the cage actually pays people out. Keen to hear if anyone knows though.
New here, soaking it up.
I was in a similar spot last time I visited a small venue, honestly a quiet floor makes me spin worse π
FreespinLord, no clue about the payouts there, still learning how to even judge that. Maybe worth another visit off-peak?

Yeah @Jandal15, quiet feels off sometimes but once you get going, the action is always HUGE! On it every evening! π€©π°π
Backing my slot to the last spin.
